With restrictions easing to small groups, we trial With restrictions easing to small groups, we trialled a new location whilst patiently awaiting our track re-opening. The atmosphere was electric, reunions with our isolated training partners, and welcoming 4 new training partners who also feel like long lost friends. By any measure, we're basically all the same, united by the love of running hard. If you know, you know. It's only a small taste, but we're hungry for more soul searching suffer festivals together. 'Now' is always the correct time to work on techni 'Now' is always the correct time to work on technique. Running is a series of simple movements. Like anything, the more simple the activity, the more dedication required to master it. Here's Cassie, she's an 84min half marathoner with a lot of improvement ahead. As you can see in the video she has a heel strike, a 19 degree Q angle in knee extension and a slightly inward knee, which she compensates by externally rotating the foot - the right leg in particular. These factors increase her risk of itb and medial tibia injury in particular. She made immediate improvements after seeing her video and a simple focus cue. Add to that dry needling external hip rotators/flexors/itb and massage treatment, a practice drill, external hip rotation mobility focus and a progressive series of glute strength/stability exercises and she'll be unstoppable ๐Ÿ’ช

Training intensity is lower, but PBs galore ๐Ÿค” We're isolated, but we've never been more connected, brilliant team work everyone. With a lot of our runners working from home, we've With a lot of our runners working from home, we've noticed an increased reporting of foot and lower leg niggles. We asked Podiatrist and 2:14 marathoner Tom Do Canto for his tips to reduce injury risk. Working from home? If youโ€™re starting to feel an achy sensation or niggle in your feet, it might be because youโ€™re not used to all this barefoot time on hard floors (e.g. tiles/floorboards). The people with carpet and plush underlay around the house may not be resonating with this achy foot phenomenon! Often, a simple and effective solution is getting a pair of house thongs or slides. Not the free ones you get in a hotel, Iโ€™m talking about decent cushion and a touch of arch support. Some examples: 1. Oofos 2. Archies 3. Crocs 4. Orthaheel 5. Ascent Groove 6. It's great to see how our squad members are handling this situation and we hope to share that with all the new faces we are seeing - those who have hit the ground running, out of the closed gyms, offices and schools. Unfortunately, too many new runners are going too hard, too soon, and their new-found freedom is taken away, replaced with an injury. We're posting a 'Four weeks to 5km' training program here, starting with Week 1 below. This will give you the best chance possible of continuing to run safely through this indefinite period of uncertainty, and hopefully well beyond. We've always known depth is the true indicator of strength in our sport. We're inspired by the 480 US women running sub-2:45, but why should they have all the fun ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚ Australia had 12x sub-2:45 women in 2019. We're aiming to have 12 women from our squad under 2:45 and 12 men under 2:30 by the end of 2021. Anyone can commit to a lot of running, but we also need to commit to doing the necessary work that allows for a lot of running. Lets do it!

Fun to watch a good crew racing the greatest dista Fun to watch a good crew racing the greatest distance of all - *800m at Illawong @athleticsnsw allcomers meet. With 83 runners across 9 heats, fast times were inevitable. The highlight was Zach Johnson smashing his PB 1:58.80. He well and truly removed the sub 2 ๐Ÿ’ off his back. Well done Zac, now who do we sledge?! ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ Great racing by Matt Hogg 2:07, storming home for another big PB. Jared West in his first race for 3 years after an Achilles rupture and subsequent broken leg cycling was due some luck. He was fortunate to get a great ride behind Oli Raimond 1st, to finish 2nd with 1:52.30. That's some serious rust busting, 0.8sec faster and his season is really rolling. Paul Lascabettes 1:57 and Julian Oey 2:00 will also undoubtedly benefit from the under distance. * in my biased opinion ๐Ÿ…

The juniors had a big weekend too. At Regional Li The juniors had a big weekend too. At Regional Little A's, Harry Halleen 9:31 broke the @littleasnsw U/13 3,000m record by 8sec ๐Ÿ˜ฎ his sister Sophie qualified for her first ever State Championships with 2nd 1500m, 3rd 800m and Saturday their grandfather was winning the 70yrs+ category at the Sun Run. With a role model like that, we predict longevity in the sport for these little champs. All the juniors performed well and most importantly had fun ๐Ÿ˜ Some other stand out results include Dane Mitchell 1st U/14 1500 and Angie Le Roux U/13 1st 3,000m, 2nd 1500m. At @athleticsnsw Treloar Shield, Kirsty Beattie and Eloise Carey both qualified for the Australian Junior Championships in the Steeplechase ๐Ÿ‘ The conditions on Saturday were brutally hot. It's easy for our runners, but a huge effort for the volunteers. Thanks very much to all who give up their time to make these events happen ๐Ÿ™Œ
